Marcelo Gallardo’s era at Al-Ittihad has commenced. The official announcement confirms Gallardo as the new head coach. Following Nuno Espírito Santo’s departure, the Riyadh-based team successfully reached an agreement with the Argentine coach, marking the beginning of their collaboration.
“New era, higher goals with Mr. Gallardo at the helm,” stated the Saudi Arabian club via ‘X’ (formerly Twitter). The former River Plate coach, inactive for about a year after an eight-season tenure with the millionaires, has signed a contract until December 2025, with an option to extend for the next eighteen months. This makes him one of the highest-paid coaches globally.
His objective: to elevate the team, which includes players like Karim Benzema and Ngolo Kanté, to the top spots in the Saudi Pro League standings and contend in the upcoming Club World Cup.
