Lucas Verissimo’s €9M Move from Corinthians to Al-Duhail

Lucas Verissimo’s imminent departure from Corinthians marks a significant chapter in the defender’s career as he embraces a lucrative offer from Qatari club Al-Duhail. The confirmation from the team’s board comes after an enticing €9 million bid, equivalent to approximately 48.4 million reais at current rates, was presented by Al-Duhail.

This pivotal move unfolds against the backdrop of a prolonged transaction initiated in 2023 when Corinthians reached an agreement with Benfica for the definitive acquisition of Verissimo. Despite verbal understanding between the parties, the anticipated contract remained unsigned, and Corinthians failed to fulfill the stipulated €8 million payment, resulting in Verissimo’s economic rights remaining tied to Benfica.

In a regretful statement, Corinthians expressed disappointment over Verissimo’s decision but clarified that the indefinite contract was ready for signing since the beginning of January. However, the allure of Al-Duhail’s attractive proposal swayed Verissimo to explore new horizons in Asian football.

During last Saturday’s training session, Verissimo’s absence was attributed to knee pain, as explained by Walmir Cruz, Corinthians’ performance coordinator. With Verissimo’s departure on the horizon, Félix Torres and Caetano are anticipated to form the defensive duo in the upcoming match against Guaraní at the Neo Química Arena, marking Corinthians’ debut in the Paulistão.

Verissimo, since his arrival at Corinthians, has been a notable presence, participating in 18 games and leaving a lasting impact with a goal. As he bids farewell to Corinthians, the football community awaits his endeavors with Al-Duhail, recognizing the departure of a talented defender who played a significant role during his tenure with the Brazilian club.
